KNIFONIUM
WTF is a KNIFONIUM?
well, it's something that probably shouldn't exist by most accounts. it's a monstrous, fantastic all-tube-based monophonic synthesiser made by Jonte Knif, a Finnish mad scientist of epic proportion.
few have been lucky enough to lay their hands on a KNIFONIUM, but i was able to have this exquisite instrument in the studio at DEM HQ for a few months after shooting this video.
the music in this piece was composed by Drew Neumann, and consists of exclusively KNIFONIUM sounds. Drew programmed and sampled the instrument painstakingly, and the track is a testament both to his prowess and the amazing versatility of the KNIFONIUM.
as far as the video goes, it was shot in the DEM hangar in venice. the EPIC was used to capture the exquisite woodwork and mother-of pearl keys in all their glory. i enhanced the glow of the vacuum tubes with a bit of a red kick from an ARRI 150, maybe a bit much in hindsight.
